Owner: City of Pico Rivera
Location: Pico Rivera, CA
Date of Performance: Ongoing
Estimated Project Cost: $91 million
Project Overview: The Durfee Avenue Grade Separation Project involves constructing a grade-separated roadway underpass beneath the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The project aims to enhance safety and improve traffic flow by eliminating at-grade crossings and includes the construction of retaining walls and a new railroad bridge.
Summary: IDC, as the lead for Structural Engineering and Design, is responsible for the PS&E and construction staging, working closely with Caltrans and various agencies for project management and coordination. Key staff include Xiaoyun Wu, Ph.D., P.E., and David Wang, Ph.D., P.E. The design features CIDH secant pile wall abutments to facilitate early bridge construction, allowing the steel superstructure to be erected at ground level, thus prioritizing railroad operations and reducing construction time and costs. The project also includes a precast concrete fascia girder designed to blend with the local aesthetic traditions.
