San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge

Owner: Caltrans
Location: San Francisco, CA
Date of Performance: 2010 - 2012
Project Cost (Est.): $6.2 billion

Project Overview: Preliminary design, low profile street deck, structural design services, preliminary and final design, seismic retrofit, construction staging, project management, Caltrans and FHWA coordination

Summary: Following the 7.1 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake on October 17, 1989, which destroyed the 250-ton upper deck section of the San Francisco Bay Bridge, seismic experts recommended a complete rebuild of the east span. IDC engineers played a critical role as sub-consultants in the PS&E phase, providing essential design skills and bridge expertise. Their contributions were vital, leading to their invitation to join the construction team to bring the project to fruition.
