Summary: Following the 7.1 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake on October 17, 1989, which destroyed the 250-ton upper deck section of the San Francisco Bay Bridge, seismic experts recommended a complete rebuild of the east span. IDC engineers played a critical role as sub-consultants in the PS&E phase, providing essential design skills and bridge expertise. Their contributions were vital, leading to their invitation to join the construction team to bring the project to fruition.
